Privacy at Packlings

Your data sleeps right where Joey does: on your phone. Here’s the whole story, in plain English.

Last updated: October 24, 2026 · Applies to the Packlings iOS app and packlings.app

The short version
  • No accounts, no sign-in, no passwords.
  • No tracking, no ads, no analytics, no third-party SDKs.
  • Your lists, photos and kid profiles are stored on your device, with copies only when you use backups or sharing.
  • Destination search, forecasts and purchases use Apple services. You can also choose to export or share your data.
  • We couldn’t read your data if we wanted to — there is no Packlings server.

What Packlings stores

Packlings stores the things you create while using it: your bags and their items, item photos you snap, kid profiles (a first name or nickname plus an emoji avatar), packing streaks, and your settings. All of it lives in the app’s local database on your iPhone or iPad.

Kid profiles are deliberately minimal — a name and an emoji. The app doesn’t support photo avatars for children, on purpose.

Where it lives (and where it doesn’t)

Packlings stores your library locally and has no Packlings server or shared cloud database. We do not receive your library. Files you choose to export or share are accessible to their recipients and the storage service you select. If your device is set to back up to iCloud, your Packlings data is included in that backup like any other app’s; that backup belongs to your Apple account and is governed by Apple’s privacy policy.

Deleting the app deletes your Packlings data from the device. You can export a library backup in Settings before deleting the app. We do not hold a server copy to recover for you.

Apple Maps and Apple Weather

When you search for a destination or ask Joey for places to visit, the place name and relevant search terms are sent to Apple Maps. Forecast requests send destination coordinates to Apple Weather through WeatherKit. Trip dates are used locally to choose forecast days. Like other internet requests, these services receive connection information under Apple’s privacy policy. Packlings does not send your item photos, family profiles or full chat transcript with these lookups.

Ask Joey and in-app dictation

Joey uses Apple’s system on-device language model on compatible devices. Generation stays local. A destination or weather question can trigger the Apple lookups described above. In-app microphone input requires on-device speech recognition; if unavailable, typing remains available. Siri requests are handled separately by Apple.

Sharing and library backups

Sharing a list sends a text copy through the service you select; later changes do not sync. Exported library backups contain bags, item photos, profiles and packing history. They exclude travel document records, app preferences and purchases. These files are not encrypted by Packlings: save them somewhere private and share them only with intended recipients. Import and restore are processed on your device.

Camera & photos

Packlings asks for camera or photo-library access only when you make a photo card for an item or a bag. The image is processed on the device (including the background “magic cutout”) and stored in the app’s local database. Packlings does not upload photos for processing. Photos are included in library backups you choose to export and may be included in your device backup.

Siri

If you use the phrase “Ask Joey in Packlings,” your spoken request is handled by Siri first, under Apple’s terms, before being passed to the app on your device.

Notifications

Packing reminders are local notifications, scheduled and delivered entirely on your device. Nothing about them touches a server.

Purchases

Packlings Plus is an annual auto-renewing subscription purchased through Apple’s App Store. Apple processes payment; we never see your payment details. StoreKit provides signed purchase and subscription information, including whether access is active, expired or revoked, so the app can enable Plus. This information is checked on your device and is not sent to a Packlings server. Manage or cancel your subscription in your Apple Account’s subscription settings.

This website

The website loads its fonts from Google Fonts. Your browser sends Google the connection information needed to retrieve those files, including your IP address. See Google Fonts privacy information. The site does not use analytics or advertising scripts. Its hosting provider processes connection information to deliver the pages.

Kids

Packlings is an app for parents that kids get to use in Kid Mode. We collect no personal information from anyone — adults or children. Everything a child does in the app (tapping photo cards, earning streaks) stays on the family’s own device.

Changes

If Packlings ever adds a feature that changes any of the above — for example, optional live sync — this policy will be updated before that feature ships, with the date at the top and a plain-English explanation of what changed. The promise that won’t change: no ads, no tracking, no selling data. Ever.
